Dan Gibson believes Islam originated in Petra which established the original qibla. Petra was a major trade city known as “The Mother of All Cities” which Mecca is often referred to. As the current city of Mecca has no history of great trade or pomp, Dan has come to the conclusion that Mecca was one of the many names for Petra, and through time and migration, a “new” Mecca was established in the south. The language of Petra is also very close to the language found in the Qur’an which sensibly links the two. Many Muslims disagree with Dan’s data points, but Dan challenges anyone who disagrees with his conclusions to look at all the data before making a final objection.
